Voting's over in a national contest in which D158's Conley Elementary School might have won a $50,000 prize. The conteast ended Sunday but school officials Monday said even though the contest was computerized online, U.S. Cellular, the wireless phone company running the contest, won't announce the winners until late next month.
Conley last week had the 11th highest number of "votes" to win one among 17 $50,000 awards to elementary schools. If down-to-the line results was any indicator, Conley was still in the running at the end. According to the contest website, Algonquin mom Nikki Schellhase was one of the final voters in the competition, commenting, "Go Conley."
The school hopes to equip more classrooms with SMARTBoard electronic blackboards if it wins.
