The McHenry County Board Tuesday approved posting a slightly decreased 2013 budget for review before a final vote next month. Predicated on no increase in the County's property tax levy, next year's $252 million budget would be $4.5 million less than this year.
Under Illinois law the County could take as much as a three percent property tax increase for inflation but, one way or another, most Board members said times are still too tough. They're pretty tight at McHenry County, too, where Assistant Administrator John Labaj reported 83 positions that have now been eliminated and only 19 added via reconfiguration in the last three years. "The result is 64 fewer positions," he said.
