Huntley PD Begins Enforcement Against Sidewalk Blockers

Huntley police began issuing warning tickets Monday for parkers who block village sidewalks.  Besides being inconsiderate it's a Village ordinance violation worth a $25 fine.

Huntley Police report they've received a lot of complaints about blocked sidewalks from pedestrians and bicyclists.  The problem was mentioned a lot in comments in HPD's Citizen Survey released last week, too.

Huntley Deputy Chief Todd Fulton said, "We will start by issuing warnings then move to parking tickets."

Forget about warnings. Issue tickets. These people know but do not care. When 3 families live in one house they better empty the garage.

It's so nice to know that all Serious Crime has been taken care of and eliminated in Huntley, so that the sidewalk police can spend their time on this sillyness.

To Anon #3, it isn't so silly to someone who has to use a walker or little kids riding their bikes on the sidewalk.

I guess I can't relate, since our subdivision only has roads, and kids and people walk down them AND play in them. I haven't seen a sidewalk since I was 7, and I'm now 65. 'course we also didn't wear plastic headgear when we rode our bikes nor sue someone because we were wronged. If you want your Police department to waste time looking for rude people, the speeder and burglar and other offenders should like coming to Huntley for the free pickings. Our Nation's "Mommy State" was our own Mothers and Fathers who paid attention to us. Wonder how we made it this far?
