Conley Elementary School Needs Votes In $50K Contest

The voting signs in front of D158's Conley Elementary School this week don't have anything to do with the November election.  They're about a cellphone carriers' national race for $50,000 that the the school's winning so far. But there are still three weeks to go.

Conley leapt to third place the first week of U.S. Cellular's Calling All Communities promotion promising a $150,000 donation to the school with the top "votes" and $50,000 to the next 17.  It fell back to eighth in week two but fought back to seventh last week, according to the latest tally Tuesday.

"It's been crazy," said saleswoman Alma Gaspard at U.S. Cellular's Randall Road Store in Algonquin.  That's where "voters" have to go to pick up a free card with a code number to cast an online ballot for Conley to win.  Gaspard said she had 200 cards on hand and could get lots more.

The voting runs through Oct. 21. and (save this in favorites or bookmarks because it's not easy to find) the online place to vote for Conley is here:
