Blessing Of Animals In Algonquin Peaceful Event

Considering that there were at least 100 strange dogs together for Sunday's Blessing of the Animals at St. Margaret Mary Church in Algonquin, it was a remarkably peaceful event.  Father Peter Tymko blessed a group of beasts that included not only the dogs, but at least eight cats (in carriers), three goats, two hamsters, a turtle and a goldfish.

Tymko said the annual blessing ceremony was "to remind us that the animals are our friends who live with us and help us."  Oct. 4 in the Catholic Church is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi who wrote the Canticle of the Creatures. It sort of said the same thing.
