Algonquin Assessments Oct. 26, Grafton Following Week

Algonquin Township property owners can mark their calendars for the start of the 30-day appeals period.  McHenry County Chief Assessment Officer Bob Ross said Monday 2012 assessments for Algonquin Township will be published in 10 days, Friday, Oct. 26.  That means the 30-day deadline for appeals will be Nov. 26, Ross said.

Ross didn't have a publication date yet for Grafton assessments yet, the last of McHenry County's "Big Five" townships, just that it would be "the week of Oct. 29."

Most of the smaller townships' assessments have already been published and Ross said appeals, so far, are running "a little bit over last year."  That's even though the State Department of Revenue finally recognized McHenry County property values are falling and assigned the County a 9 percent negative multiplier for 2012.  "That varies by township," Ross warned, though.

It only takes about thirty minutes to fill out the 2-page form and find comparable sales. Use your townships website. It's EASY and FREE!!

If you have questions - Assessor Ottleys Office has been very helpful to me as I try to figure out appealing my assessments. They said they will help any resident that wants to file an appeal for any reason.

Seems like they really try to help too, not just brush you off.
