The Huntley Village Board took a first look at updates for its Transportation Plan. It's a different world since the plan was first charted in 2002. For instance, Huntley's full interchange at Route 47 and I-90's already a done deal. Almost. But while some other projects are nearing actuality, others are looking increasingly iffy.
The Kreutzer Road extension west of 47 is already sort of underway with connections at both 47 and Main Street already finished. The in-between part's in the midst of nuts-and-bolts engineering right now and bid letting and construction's expected next year.
Shakier-looking, however, is the extension of Algonquin Road west of 47 to, in its grandest conception, connect with Harmony Road and, thus, both Route 20 and I-90 west of Huntley. There's no particular funding source on the horizon for that and planners are thinking maybe it'd make more sense to hook an Algonquin extension into the forthcoming Kreutzer extension to create a loop around Huntley's center.
Bus service is something else it would be nice to plan for Huntley. The RTA and Illinois Tollway are both wrestling with ways to add bus service on both Randall Road and I-90 and if they can ever settle on something, it might not be too far-fetched to imagine extending it to Huntley.
Proposed updates to the Huntley Transportation Plan are here starting at p. 182:

The amended Plan will be presented to the Board for formal approval in October.

That makes a lot of sense. Spend millions on revitalizing the so called square and then build a road that allows you to bypass it.
If you have the bypass there is no need for a $200,000 welcome to Huntley sign.
