Second Child Approach Reported In Algonquin Willoughby Area

Algonquin Police are running increased patrols around Westfield School this morning after another reported child approach near the school Sunday.

Police said an 11 year-old girl playing at her home on Foster Circle near Sleepy Hollow Road late Sunday afternoon reported a stranger told her to get into his van but she ran inside.  The child described the man as white, clean-shaven, brown haired, in his late 30's driving a white van with an aluminum ladder on top.

Deputy Chief Ed Urban said the girl did just what she was supposed to to, telling her parents about the approach immediately.  "We are asking parents to reaffirm the fact that a child should never get into any vehicle with an adult who is not their parent unless it is prearranged as part of that child’s safety plan," he said.

Algonquin Police alerted D300 Safety Officials who sent a message about the incident to Westfield parents Monday.  The reported child approach Sunday was the second near Westfield since the new school year began.  Another approach was reported Aug. 21 further south and west in Willoughby farms. Anyone having information that can help identify the driver is asked to contact the Algonquin Police Department at (847) 658-4531.
