No Ticket For Isaac At LITH Summer Sunset Festival

Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival got off the a good start Friday evening, marred only by a generator burnout that knocked the carnival Ferris wheel out of the commission.  Temps were still at 90 degrees at 7 pm but by 8 a nice breeze had sprung up to cool things down.

That might have been a harbinger of troubles to come, however. Summer Sunset organizers were looking over their figurative shoulders Friday as what's left of Hurricane Isaac chugged up the Central U.S.  National Weather Service forecasters this morning figured it would reach central Illinois and maybe northern by late this evening and continue east through Sunday. So far the outlook, they said, was for periods of heavy rainfall to occur south of I-80.

Friday evening LITH's Steve Bland led a pack of 363 runners in the Summer Sunset 5k race at Sunset Park with a 17:42.4 time. Lakewood's Kevin Kohls was 10 seconds behind at 17:52.7. Bill Jensen of Algonquin was fourth across the line with an 18:25.9 showing. Twentieth overall and first among women runners was young Megan Hernandez from LITH. She ran the course at 20:28.4.
