Huntley Walk For Poor Draws Triple Last Year's Number

Saturday's Friends of the Poor Walk in Huntley's wasn't the first in which St. Mary's parishioners participated but it was the first at St. Mary's instead of annual joint church walk in Dundee.  Maybe that was why 250 walkers turned out to raise funds for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to help the poor and troubled.  "We only had maybe 80 or so last year," said organizer Anne Falk, LITH.

The "Walk for the Poor" is an annual event held by SVdP conferences across the nation. In addition to raising funds to support the charitable works of the Society, the Walk emphasizes the admonition of St. Vincent to serve as the voice of the poor, speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.
