Lake in the Hills Police are still trying to figure out an incident that started with a 911 call about a burglary in progress early Wednesday morning and ended with the arrest of a Huntley man hiding in some residential shrubbery clutching a hammer.
LITH police said they found 19 year-old Daniel W. Bockenhauer, 11606 Lori Ln., Huntley, as they searched around a residence in the 4000 Block of Heron Drive. Police said they believed Bockenhauer had tried unsuccessfully to break into the house even though he knew there were people inside.
LITH investigators thought the incident resembled one in Huntley last week and turned Bockehnauer over the Huntley PD. After questioning him, Huntley investigators connected him to a break-in last Thursday in the 11600 block of Davey Dr. where they said he wanted to meet a woman who lived there. They said Bockenhauer had also broken into a residence in the 11500 block of Federick Way a week earlier to steal a computer.
McHenry County Jail records show Bockenhauer awaiting a bail hearing this morning charged with residential burglary, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to residence with persons present, two counts of criminal trespass to land, window peeping and disorderly conduct.
