Candidates Appear At Dundee Township GOP Fest

Dundee Township Republicans, including nether Algonquin, didn't spend much time at Santa's Village Petting Zoo during their 19th Annual Family Picnic Sunday.  Hot dogs and candidates were the bigger attractions.

GOP House Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam, whose Sixth District was wildly remapped to include parts of eastern Algonquin and Lake in the Hills for the November election, made an appearance.  Congressman Randy Hultgren whose 14th District now includes the rest of McHenry County was busy elsewhere.  So was 64th District State Rep. Mike Tryon now running unopposed in the relocated 66th District.  Dave McSweeney, running against Indpendent Dee Beaubien for the rejiggered-way-south 52nd State House spot, showed up, however.  He questioned Beaubien's independence, especially from Democratic House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Most interesting was the appearance by Dan Rutherford who still has two years to go as Illinois Treasurer.  He declined to say he's going to run for Governor in 2014 but seemed chagrined FEN had noticed he cranked up press releases out of his office a lot about two months ago.

This was the first time I attended and was a great family event. I enjoyed talking meeting some of the candidates and being able to talk with them one on one. Count me in next year!
