Antique Farm Tractors Feature At Huntley Farmers' Market

Antique farm tractors were the highlight Saturday at Huntley's weekly Farmers' Market on Coral Street.  Once on the cutting edge of agriculture, then the mainstay of farms in the area, the old machines were long superseded.  "There's garden tractors with more power today," said Huntley native, now Union resident, Jim Jones.

Sun City resident Joe Britz recalled earlier days, too.  "I remember these," he said. "I grew up on a farm.  We had a tractor.  Cattle, chickens.  Manure.  You shoveled that by hand."

"My stepfather had a 1939 John Deere and a team of horses," said Jones.  "He farmed 120 acres."

"I help my son now," Jones said.  "He farms over 4,000 acres with two tractors.  He doesn't have to work near as hard."
