Algonquin Selects Newest Public Art

A metal scrap Tyrannosaur to prowl the River Pointe shopping center at Algonquin and Randall roads was probably the most unusual selection among 40 pieces picked for display for the next year in Algonquin's Public Arts Program.

The Village Board accepted the Public Arts Commission recommendations this week from among 49 artworks submitted. by 19 artists including 6 first-time applicants.  Besides River Pointe and the usual interior public building locations, two of the artworks will be displayed in an area restaurant. Which one hasn't been decided yet.

In the pic:  McHenry sculptor Don Elder put together this T-Rex for display in Algonquin's Public Arts Program.  At only six feet, it's less than lifesized, though.
