A feller buncher machine Monday chopped trees on the south side of Algonquin Road like so many stalks of celery preparing for the start of actual construction of Algonquin's Route 31 Bypass. The highly unofficial best estimate for Algonquin Road to neck down to a single lane in each direction from 9 am to 3 pm each day remains Wednesday, according to a Village source.
"Some time this week," was as close as one construction engineer, who wasn't supposed to talk to reporters, anyway, was willing to estimate Monday.
Why the reluctance to name a date certain? "If they commit, they're afraid they might end up shutting the lanes down before there's any construction going on," said one informed observer.
