Algonquin Home Badly Damaged In Saturday Evening Fire

Fire severely damaged an Algonquin home off Route 31 Saturday evening and damaged the one adjacent but no one was there when the fire broke out so there were no injuries.

Algonquin Lake in the Hills firefighters found the fire at 5 Filip Rd. already through the roof when they arrived  shortly after 6:30 pm.  Crews ran inside to try to quell the flames but had to retreat from heavy flames and smoke when the room threatened to cave in on them.

Investigators this morning hadn't determined the cause of the fire yet, nor was there a dollar estimate of damage.

Firefighters from Carpentersville, Huntley, Crystal Lake, Barrington and Cary Fire Departments helped at the blaze.  McHenry County Animal Control found two house cats safe nearby and turned over to the residents when they arrived back home.
