Despite delays earlier this Summer, Edgewood Drive will reopen before Winter closes in, according to the latest estimate from Algonquin officials. "The construction is now 10 days ahead of schedule," Public Works director Bob Mitchard told the Algonquin Village Board at last week's meeting. Paving's expected to be finished "by mid-October" Mitchard said.
The east/west commuter route from Route 31 to Hanson Road's been under reconstruction from the ground up since April but utility relocation--or the lack thereof--hampered the pace until recently. July's blistering heatwave probably slowed reconstruction, too. At one point, Mitchard reported, crews had to mix ice with concrete so it wouldn't cure too fast.
The Edgewood project consists of the widening and reconstruction of Edgewood Drive, including curb and gutter, storm sewer, roadway grade adjustments, construction of a multi-use path, replacement of the box culvert over Ratt Creek Tributary, and the replacement of the deck, and repair of abutments to the structure over Ratt Creek.
The current schedule calls for Edgewood to reopen to traffic in December although there still might be intermittent lane closures. Finishing touches are supposed to be completed next Spring.
