Erecting a 15-foot girder from the wreckage of the World Trade Center Monday may have been the easiest part of the hasty two-week construction of the Algonquin Lake in the Hills Firefighters Memorial in time its dedication in Alogonquin's Riverside Park at 6 pm today.
Firemen, their families and a contingent of kids from the nearby Learning Tree Child Center watched as a donated crane swung the ponderous relic into place for volunteers to bolt down.
The Firefighters Memorial will honor the memories of the victims of the 9/11 attacks, the first responders who died saving others and two ALFPD firefighters who've died the line of duty.
