Sun City 9/11 Flag Memorial Starts 9/7

The Sun City, Huntley, 9/11 American Flag Memorial will begin at 10 am next Friday when Sun City Marines present the colors at the Fountain Pavilion and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  However, the remembrance, including film presentations, taps at sunset and, new this year, a Memory Walk Luminaria will continue through Sept. 12.

Here's the complete schedule:

Sept. 7 (Friday)
10:00 am ~ SC Marines to Present the Colors at the Fountain Pavilion and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. SC Sun Tones to sing the “Star Spangled Banner”
10:15am ~ Place flags
Sunset ~ TAPS played by the American Legion

Sept. 8 (Saturday)
Sunset ~ TAPS played by the American Legion

Sept. 9 (Sunday)
Short films: “9/11 Narrative”, “Richard’s Story”, “Daily Flag Retreat” and “The Boatlift”
will be shown at Fountain View Center, Times: 11AM, 1PM and 3PM
Sunset ~ TAPS played by the American Legion

Sept. 10 (Monday)
Sunset ~ TAPS played by the American Legion

Sept. 11 (Tuesday)
7:46am ~ Bell to toll for crash of AA Flt 11 into the WTC
8:03am ~ Bell to toll for crash of United Flt 175 into the WTC
8:37am ~ Bell to toll for crash of AA Flt 77 into the Pentagon
9:03am ~ Bell to toll for crash of United Flt 93 in Pennsylvania
Short films: “9/11 Narrative”, “Richard’s Story”, “Daily Flag Retreat” and “The Boatlift”
will be shown at Sun City’s Drendel Ball Room; Times: 11AM, 1PM and 3PM
6-8PM ~ Hand out Luminaria sandbags and Glow Sticks at Fountain Pavilion
7PM ~ TAPS played by the American Legion Prairie Voices to sing: “Star Spangled Banner”, “Amazing Grace” and “God Bless America”
Sunset ~ “Memory Walk Luminaria” Luminaria will be available for purchase from 6:00-8:00pm at the Sun City Fountain Pavilion Sept. 11

Sept. 12 (Wednesday)
10:00am ~ SC Marines to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Retire the Colors at the Pavilion. All to sing Star Spangled Banner.
10:15am ~ Remove flags and prepare for storage

All events except the films will be held outdoors at Sun City’s Fountain Pavilion.
The short films will be shown at Sun City’s Fountain View Center and Drendel Ball Room.
