McSweeney Drops Appeal, Beaubien Denies Madigan Control
McSweeney had argued since Beaubien pulled a Republican ballot in March she couldn't be an independent but the Elections Board ruled that didn't matter. "I still believe that her signing of partisan Primary petitions disqualifies Dee from running as an Independent," said McSweeney's release this morning. "However, the voters of the 52nd District deserve the important debate that will occur over the next few months," it continued.
Part of the debate will probably be about connections to Democratic House Speaker Mike Madigan that surfaced in Board of Elections filings last week. Two Madigan lieutenants appeared on Beaubien's donors list via "payroll". "I've known for months that Democratic Speaker Michael Madigan has been behind Dee's candidacy," charged McSweeney's release today which claimed, "Madigan staffers are running Dee’s campaign."
"That's not true," said Beaubien this morning. "I'm running my own campaign, She added. "If (Madigan operative Shaw Decremer) were running my campaign I'd know how to pronounce his name." Beaubien said as an independent she had to accept help from "everyone". "When my husband (Mark Beaubien) was alive he saw no one as an enemy," she said.
In one other development Beaubien finally put up an Internet campaign site last night to combat at least two sites opposed to her candidacy. The new site is at: http://www.votedee.org . McSweeney's website is at http://davidmcsweeney.com/
