Clear skies, balmy temps and shiny cars made for a record turnout Sunday at Lake in the Hills' Car, Truck and motorcycle show. Proceeds from the show with 82 cars and more motorcycles than anyone counted went to support LITH's Law Enforcement Explorer Post programs.
One standout at the show was the Fisker Karma electric GT "inspired by the elegant lines of windswept sand dunes and the muscular beauty of a cheetah," assuming cheetahs have diamond-shaped air intakes. With zero-VOC recycled glass flake paint, dual electric motors, regenerative braking, a solar roof and reclaimed interior wood trim, the Karma could be yours, according to a Fisker of North Shorte spokesman, for $125,000. (Less $11,000 back from the State and Feds at tax time, available 220-volt fast {6 hours} charger only $700 extra.)
Fox River Grove's Phil Marotta from Danrr Auto Body shop probably had the most realistic display, though. Parked next to each other were a fully restored '74 Dodge with miles-deep black paint and a similar '68 with inches-deep primer and surface rust. "My grandson bought it on Ebay," Marotta sighed.
