Five Tons Of Food Gone In An Hour At Mobile Pantry Visit

Hungry local residents emptied a mobile food bank truck Sponsored by Huntley's Springbrook Community Church within one hour Friday.  At the end a few boxes of macaroni and cheese mix were all that remained and volunteers said that was only because they'd been obscured by a case of pectin for making jelly.

The visit by the Northern Illinois Food Bank truck was the first sponsored by Springbrook in conjunction with the nearby Faith Community Church Food Pantry. About 20 Springbrook volunteers helped those from Faith distribute 5 tons of food from the Pantry truck.  Faith Pantry head Staci McMahan said her church food assistance operation has been helping 150 to 250 hungry residents this summer.  "That will probably double this winter," she said, "after everybody's laid off from construction."

The Springbrook congregation has been holding regular food collections for donation to the Faith Food Pantry but Assistant Springbrook Pastor Richard Wollard thought Friday's Mobile Pantry visit was such a success that, "We'll probably do this again quarterly."
