Drought Relief OK'ed For McHenry County Farmers

McHenry County farmers qualified for some extra US Department of Agriculture drought relief this week from the USDA on crop insurance premiums.  McHenry County still isn't designated a "Primary" drought disaster county, but it's next to Boone which is, so it qualifies as a "Contiguous" drought disaster county.

That means For farmers who do have crop insurance, companies have agreed to provide a short grace period on insurance premiums for the year and USDA will not require crop them to pay uncollected producer premiums until one month later.

For farmers who don't have insurance, the Farm Service Administration will provide emergency loans to help producers recover from production and physical losses due to drought. For more information about FSA emergency loans, the man to call is David Petersen in the FSA Woodstock Services Center at 815-338-0444.

In Illinois all except Cook, Kane, Dupage and Kenall counties are now either primary or contiguous drought disaster areas now.
