Crystal Lake Pair Arrested For Huntley Barn Fire
Charged with arson, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass were Joseph Gerdes and Andrew Wiegand who, investigators said, admitted setting the fires, including the Harmony Road blaze, which caused an estimated $1 million in property damage. Sheriff's investigators said they turned their spotlight on the pair after receiving an anonymous tip.
A Sheriff's Office release said authorities in Kane and Boone County are trying to link the duo to suspicious barn fires there this Summer, too. Crystal Lake Police said Monday they believe the pair were responsible for setting fire to a couch and a mattress in that city and for opening five fire hydrants there one evening.
