The McHenry County Special Assistant State's Attorney for the Sheriff, John Kelly, confirmed Wednesday that Deputy Greg Pyle was cut from the County payroll Tuesday, the day of his arrest on new federal charges of child sexual abuse and producing child pornography. Kelly said the timing was purely coincidental.
Pyle, a sergeant and 10-year MCSO veteran had been drawing full pay since January when he was charged with 10 counts of child sexual abuse. Originally the Sheriff's Office put him on administrative leave, then on medical leave because of a physician's certification. Kelly said all the medical leave had been exhausted, though, and "Mr. Pyle has been terminated effective at the close of business (Tuesday)."
Pyle is currently being held in federal custody awaiting a detention hearing in Rockford Friday.
The FBI filed Tuesday's criminal complaint against Pyle after an investigation that included the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. An informed source admitted to FEN last month that the Illinois Attorney General's Operation Glass House investigators were aware of Pyle's McHenry County indictments since he'd worked with them as the Sheriff's Office kid porn expert. No one would officially confirm the investigation at the time, however.

Coincidental??????
How much did the taxpayer pay John Kelly to tell you that lie, Pete? Coincidental my butt. Someone please FOIA Pyle's benefit time and expose this lie! Where's "MCSD Exposed" when you need it. Zane come back!!!
Who gets fired on a Tuesday? I mean besides cops who are indicted by the Feds for raping children. Nygren has set a whole new standard when it comes to employee discipline and termination. You can pretty much do any damn thing you want and he can't touch you. All a union member will have to do is file a grievance and bring Greg Pyle into testify about how lenient the Sheriff was with his situation. No internal investigation, no charges, extended paid leave, accommodating bail procedures, heads up that ISP is after you, the list goes on and on.
MEDICAL LEAVE!!!! Since when does he qualify for MEDICAL LEAVE! Scott Milliman didn't get an opportunity to use medical leave before Nygren IMMEDIATELY terminated him for testifying that Nygren was a criminal. Since when does pedophilia qualify a police officer for medical leave? This county's Sheriff's department is an absolute travesty.
PYLE IS NOT A UNION MEMBER!! He is a Sgt. The only union guys are the deputies NOT supervisors.
Get it through your heads!!
P.S. Supervisors are handled by the Merit Commission.
Nygren made sure they cancelled meetings and never met, so he was not discussed and could keep getting paid. Whoever said it was HUSH MONEY was dead on.
About time he's fired. This guy has done nothing but hurt, in addition to the children, all the good cops out there. The sheriff should have put this as a top priority to get him OUT. I think folks are tired of coverups.
Comment two: Did it yesterday.--ed.
Thanks, Pete.

During a labor law grievance or a civil lawsuit that would occur if a supervisor was fired by the Merit Commission, the plaintiff (employee)has a right to use comparative scenarios in order to demonstrate unfair treatment. Supervisors, union members, it does not matter when it comes to comparative cases as a means of demonstrating unequal discipline or unlawful termination. As a professional in the field, I agree with the third comment. The Sheriff will have a hard time justifying a termination of anything less than a felony from this point on. He has also set the standard that Medical Leave can be used until exhausted before commencing with termination proceedings. The handling of this employee will come back to haunt the Sheriff's Department for years to come. Unfortunately, the special treatment Sgt. Pyle received will become the standard of comparison, which means the taxpayer will be stuck with a less desirable police force.
How much less desirable can this police force be??
The good men do not get promoted and many just leave.
Things have to change.
