Algonquin launched a new Village website this week. Actually it's the same site as before but Village IT laid on a new design and additional functionality for visitors. It's supposed to offer residents, businesses, and visitors a more effective communication tool to connect to Village news and events.
“Technology continues to play an ever-growing role for Village’s communications” said Village President John Schmitt. “More and more people continue to visit the Village website to get information and request services." Page hits on the Village website have grown from approximately 50,000 a month in 2006 to over 300,000 a month now.
Some new features include RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds which allow visitors to subscribe to news and receive real-time notification for updated content. Also added are integrated social media applications to allow visitors to share website content on Facebook, Twitter, and others of the ilk. The site's also been rejiggered so smart phones will access a mobile-compatible version of the Village pages to view news and services.
Algonquin's website is www.algonquin.org.
