Donley's Wild West Town Banquet Hall in Union was an appropriate venue Saturday to show off a man who wants to become County Sheriff. Undersheriff Andrew Zinke had to move fundraising festivities there, he said, after signups for a gala at a private home turned into a stampede.
Zinke announced his candidacy for McHenry County Sheriff six months ago even though the Primary won't be until early 2014. He told FEN he didn't think that and Saturday's fundraiser were being too quick on the draw, though. "Sure, I've got the Sheriff's endorsement but I need to reach out and meet 300,000 people in McHenry County and let them know I should be the Sheriff," said the 23-year Sheriff's Office veteran. "I need to meet the people. In fact, I consider it my duty."
In the pic: Sheriff's hopeful Andrew Zinke stops to palaver with Joe Gottemoller, current District 3 County Board candidate, and his sidekick Hank Sugden from the MS&G spread over to Crystal Lake way.

I question ANYONE the sheriff and the establishment (good old boys) support.
Voters are Lemmings! He's a shoe in.
Not if you get out there and inform people of what is what. That can make a big difference. Have witnessed it. If the effort is made, it can be done. Complaisance the destructive problem.
So disappointed in Joe G. He knows what these people are about but is playing the political game to get ahead.
Getting into the self serving mode.
Anyone that attended this fundraiser is part of the problem.
Look into Zinke's family and extended family.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
There is a REAL story out there.
What the heck Gonigan. You took down the best comment. Working for the man now? So he's got you, the Daily Herald, the Northwest Herald, Crystal Lake Patch all in his pocket.
Good thing the comment was already passed on to unbiased media types. Guys who do not fear the likes of Nygren!
Get this straight: I'll stand behind whatever I print, but I won't be responsible for anonymous assertions whose factual basis I have not yet established.
If you've got actual information, call or write me. If you've got rumor and innuendo, save us both some time.
I wish I were in someone's pocket around here. It'd be so much easier to cut off their xxxxs.--ed.

A confident and forceful statement of fact or belief: "his assertion that his father had deserted the family".
The action of stating something or exercising authority confidently and forcefully: "the assertion of his legal rights".
There were no assertions in the deleted (severely edited) comment. There were only questions and a detailed "road map" to some assertions that have yet to made public.

Anon - above - There is apparently a lot of unhappy people working in very bad situations. GRoup together and stand by some good person to take this office. Fear is an enemy that will control you and sink you. Be vocal and get out there with support. 90% of the department cannot be fired or punished. It would bring too much attention. Get some guts.

It's fascinating that on this day when a group of heroes risked their lives and sacred honor, some self-righteous twit quivers in the shadows whining that another isn't brave enough to fight.
Give me something REAL to work with, little fella, and I promise I'll protect you.--ed.
I just deleted another self-serving comment from this guy hinting at secret knowledge that he can't reveal. He's afraid he'll receive "a threatening email."--ed.
There is a lot of anger and frustration here. People that are abused, intimidated and threatened. Pete is to be trusted. He is a bona fide investigative reporter from the best schools. Because of this, his informants ARE PROTECTED BY LAW. Pete would not reveal a source. He has sources and can look into things. Talk to him, give him the info. He will check it out. He needs something to work with. If you have documentation, are a witness to something, you can tell him.
This I know for sure.
Someone did provide some actual potentially verifiable information, although not on a central issue. Based on appeals currently pending, it'll take at least six months to get the records, if I can, and there's no guarantee they'll prove anything if I do. Just because you don't see a story doesn't mean I'm not working on one.--ed.
Got something for Pete? Help him along. Could cut back on the time issue. If we get stuck with Andy for sheriff, we may only have ourselves to blame.
