A good-sized crowd of Spring Hill Mall shoppers in Dundee stopped to enjoy a preview performance of songs from the D300 Foundation for Educational Excellence “Summer Theatre” production of "Bye Bye Birdie" beginning at Jacobs High School Friday.
A gentle contemporary satire when it hit Broadway in 1960, over the years Birdie's become a nostalgic comedy about a simpler day when, just for example, teens communicated via telephone--as opposed to present-day texting, twittering and, of course, inarticulate screaming. ("Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way? What's the matter with kids, today?")
Birdie will have four performances: Friday and Saturday and Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21. All shows begin at 7:00 p.m. General seating at $8 for adults and $5 for children, students and seniors.
