Tuesday will be the 29th Annual National Night Out crime/drug prevention and community-building event. Lake in the Hills and Huntley are actively involved in the nationwide initiative with Algonquin assuming a more passive role.
LITH's celebration actually covers two days. Tuesday there will be block parties throughout the Village with police Officers and Village Officials cruising around in LITH PD's mobile command center to visit. The following Saturday, Aug. 11, LITH will hold a Community Cookout at the LITH Safety Education Center on Crystal Lake Road from 5 to 7 pm. On tap will be static displays and demonstrations, including a simunitions booth, police station tours, a K-9 demo and a chance to participate in the Fatal Vision Golf Cart Course simulating the physical impairment of drunkenness while remaining stone sober.
The Village of Huntley will also be involved Tuesday. The Huntley Police Department encourages residents to turn on their outside lights and go outside to meet their neighbors. Officers will be driving through the subdivisions to meet folks and will be be attending neighborhood parties. Some of the Village Board members and staff will likely be cruising around, too.
Meanwhile, "the Village of Algonquin encourages neighbors to come together and host their own neighborhood events on August 7 for National Night Out," according to a notice on the Village website.
