Algonquin Wins McHenry County Green Award

The Algonquin Board was pleasantly surprised Tuesday to discover the Village had been named the winner of the 2012 McHenry County Green Award for last Fall's Algonquin Cleanup and Recycling DropOff Event.

The Village partnered with Waste Management and Vintage Tech Recyclers for the one-day recycling event.  Waste Management provided containers for recyclables including plastics, metals, wood, and cardboard, collecting approximately 16,500 pounds of recyclable material.  Vintage Tech Recyclers collected approximately 18,000 pounds of electronic waste which will be recycled.  Additionally, a truckload of usable items, including clothes, toys, housewares, etc., was collected and donated to Purple Heart at the event.

In fact, the event went over so well last year the Village of Algonquin's planning to do it again this year in October.
