Tennessee officials will return a developmentally disabled Algonquin woman abandoned by her mother to Illinois today. A Campbell County, TN, judge Wednesday relieved the Tennessee Department of Human Services of legal custody of 19 year-old Lynn Cameron after receiving assurances Illinois authorities have located a suitable residence for her.
The court's order, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel, found that the State of Illinois "wishes to retain jurisdiction of (Cameron) and has obtained a suitable placement that will provide appropriate services upon her return to Illinois." Cameron's mother, 45 year-old Eva Cameron, has admitted leaving her daughter in a Caryville, TN, bar last month claiming she couldn't get State help in Illinois to care for her daughter.
Illinois authorities have brought no charges against Eva Cameron, however, WBIR-TV, Knoxville, TN, reported Wednesday that next month the District Attorney's office in Tennessee will ask a grand jury to consider charging Eva Cameron with "willful exploitation of an impaired adult". That's a felony offense in the state.
There's no information yet about what agency in Illinois will assume responsibility for Lynn Cameron nor where she will be cared for.
