Grafton Township OK's 2010 Levy

Snow (a lot of it) didn't stay a Special Meeting of the Grafton Township Board Monday to approve a new levy for the 2010 tax year.  The board OK'ed a theoretical figure 4.99 percent higher than last year but it was another "balloon levy" that bears little relation to the township's coming total tax bite.

That's limited to a 2.7 percent increase over last year plus the value of new construction in the township this year of which there was some but not a lot.

Supervisor Linda Moore argued for no increase in the levy at all citing a rough year for taxpayers.  The rest of the Board voted for the semi-imaginary $1,060,490 levy so that the Township could capture whatever actual increased revenue the law allows come April.

It was a short meeting.  Trustee Gerry McMahon reportedly didn't arrive until after the vote.  FEN didn't arrive until there was nothing left but tire tracks in the parking lot.

To anyone who accidentally stumbles upon comments that seem to point the finger of blame for, well, everything at Supervisor Moore - there's a long history here and it doesn't all rest on her shoulders.

It's a political and personal background which sometimes seems more like Chicago b.s. than Grafton Township.

Did I mention the courts agreed more with Supervisor Moore and other citizens/taxpayers as opposed to agreeing with the Trustees now or then?

Can they all sing songs around a peaceful campfire now - highly unlikely.

to Anonymous at 9:58am .. The courts actually ruled in favor of the TRUSTEES. You might want to review the ruling.

Also, I knew nothing of Linda Moore up to about a year and a half ago. All of my opinions of her have been accumulated within that time frame. I find nothing that she has done has been to the benefit of our township. ie: Removed files from the township, had phone lines switched to an abandoned farm house, lost money from the state for transportation....etc etc etc etc

The rough year for taxpayers (including the seniors that were told per Moore they'd need to pony up a couple extra bucks to get to the food pantry) is because she depleted the township bankrolls by initiating lawsuits that the public is forced to pay for. The Green Shirt Brigade rammed through the buyback of the township offices, but Moore double-crossed them by virtually bankrupting the Township! OOPS!!! Some "fiscal conservative"!
