Huntley Jaycees' volleyball fundraiser Saturday for Animal House pet shelter on Ernesti Road was a big success--at least for one dog named Mary. Or Rony; it gets a little complicated.
While the event at Parkside Pub was just supposed to raise money for the shelter, volunteers brought along some adoptable dogs. Algonquin's Don Terrell, meanwhile had dropped in for a cool one. "I saw all these animals walking around," he said. Finding they were up for adoption Terrell said, "I'm like, 'Well, I really like this dog.'"
However, that particular dog's name was Mary which didn't seem to fit with Terrell's already-resident dog named Riley so, "When she's home she'll be Rony," he said.
Animal House has a lollaPAWlooza celebration set for next Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm at the Shelter. "We pretty much always have 200 dogs," said Marketing Manager Debbie Oesterle.

In the pic: Don Terrell chats about his new friend Mary/Rony with LITH's Scott Schmidt who has a dog just like her. "Their ears are so soft," said Schmidt.
