$100,000 For Special Prosecutor A Housekeeping Measure

The McHenry County Finance and Audit Committee Tuesday approved payment of up to $100,000 for a Special Prosecutor investigating possible campaign wrongdoing by State's Attorney Lou Bianchi three years ago.

The action mostly had to do with keeping accounting books straight, however.  Chairman Marc Munaretto said former judge Henry Tonigan has already submitted $34,000 worth of bills since his appointment by the Circuit Court last September and more were clearly on the way.

While the Court ordered the investigation it's up to the County to pay for it and Munaretto said in that case there ought to be some sort of budget entry to bill against.  "We're saying in the worst case it might come to $100,000 bucks," Munaretto said.
